Gucci Tights: Are They Worth It?

Earlier this month I shared my thoughts on the Gucci belt (read about it here). Now, I am back with another Gucci topic: The Gucci Tights. Specifically, the Black GG Tights. I am elated with my purchase and would recommend them to others.  Below are the three reasons why.

Per usual, leave me your thoughts below! Also, if you disagree, let me know why. I welcome dissenting opinions!

1. Fit

I purchased the Gucci Black GG Tights as a birthday present to myself. Since then, I have worn them on various occasions and I am generally impressed with the fit. I departed from my usual medium and ordered a size large because according to reviews online they run small. Here is the sizing information for your reference:

The tights come in three different sizes: small (S), medium (M) and large (L). Gucci recommends size S for those who are 145-160cm tall, M for 150-165cm and size L for 155-170cm tall. Length wise they are perfect – not too long or too short.

I am glad I got the large because they fit me high waisted and I detest when tights hit below the belly button. However, if I would have purchased the medium, they probably would have fit because the large is a little loose on me.

The tights also have significant stretch, which I always appreciate. Tights with no give are uncomfortable and these don’t fall in that category. Some luxury items are made for style rather than comfort, but with the Gucci GG tights you do not have to sacrifice one over the other.

2. Gucci Tights Price Point

Gucci mania is still alive and well. The heritage brand has been popular with millennials, specifically HENRY millennials for a couple of years now, and unlike other brands they welcome this new customer base. In 2018, Gucci’s sales almost doubled and 55% of those sales were made to consumers under 35. Gucci’s CEO Marco Bizzarri has acknowledged that “millennials tend to have an appetite for new things and they are driven by content, emotions, and personal connections. They value self-expression …”

Though Guccimania is fun, the price points are not. For example: shoes, handbags and other accessories often start at several hundred dollars. However, the Gucci tights are a departure from those prices, and as such more accessible than other items. I purchased mine for $120 from here.

3. Cost Per Wear of Gucci Tights

In my previous Gucci post, I discussed the factors that I consider when making a luxury purchase, including cost-per-wear. Specifically, cost-per-wear takes into account the cost of the item divided by the number of days you will wear it.

CPW = Total cost of the item / Number of days you’ll wear it

For example, the Gucci GG tights costs $120 and I have already worn them seven times since November. As such, the cost per wear for the The Gucci GG tights for me at the time of this post is about $17 per wear.  (Since I live in Washington, D.C. I still have several winter months left, thus I will likely wear these tights a couple more times). $17 seems much more reasonable than paying $120 for a one time use item. Also, investing in wardrobe pieces that you can wear multiple times fits into my lifestyle because I’d rather have quality over quantity. The more high quality pieces I have, the less fast fashion I consume.

Given the low cost per wear, it goes unsaid that the Gucci GG tights are versatile and go with a wide range of outfits. I have worn them with skirts, dresses, combat boots, loafers, and boots. The possibilities are endless. Also, search for the #guccitights hashtag on Instagram for additional inspiration.

Gucci Tights Bonus Tip

Lastly, at first glance the Gucci GG tights do not appear to have a low cost per wear because of the material. However, made from a sheer stretch nylon jersey material, they are not as fragile as they appear. Don’t get me wrong, I am still very careful when I wear these tights, but they do not snag as easily as other tights.
